We are the only representative of Shorin Ryu Karate Do International USA in New Zealand. We provide professional tutition in an Okinawan Karate and Kobudo self defence system.
New Students are accepted from age five, and prospective students are welcome to attend three free sessions, without obligation. Shorin Ryu Karate Do New Zealand is headed by Sensei James Johnston, 3rd Dan, Okinawan trained and certified.
Shorin Ryu Karatedo International (SRKDI), based in New York USA, is headed by Jerry Figgiani Sensei 8th dan. Being a member of SRKDI has been immensely beneficial as Jerry Sensei has a wealth of knowledge and has provided great support for our organisation here in New Zealand.
Our karate is a Shorin style called Matsubayashi Ryu, developed by Okinawa master Shoshin Nagamine (1907-1997) in 1941. In conjunction, we teach related self-defence technique, Okinawa weaponry and sport kumite.
