Prospective students are welcome to have a no obligation three session try out. A membership form needs to be completed in duplicate when a decision has been made to join. Both SRKDNZ and the new student retain a copy.
New students are accepted from age 5 through to 70. Junior students age 5 to 13 years attend the afternoon classes. Students age 14 and over attend the adult’s night classes. All students are entitled to train at any or all our weekly classes, excluding weapons classes, for the same term/monthly tuition fee. Weapons training is available to all adult grades and kids graded green belt and above. Senior and purple belts students are required to pay a yearly membership fee to our affiliate organization Shorin Ryu Karatedo International, USA. New members must agree to our terms of membership as set out below.
- Prospective students must notify the chief instructor of any long-term injury/ illness that might affect their ability to undertake any of the training exercises.
- Tuition fees are to be paid at the start of each school term. Non-use of class time does not mean a refund will be given.
- Formats and technique learned at Shorin Ryu Karate Do New Zealand are for the purpose of self-defence only. Misuse of this knowledge will result in expulsion from our organization.
- Students who miss more than three consecutive weeks of training and have made no attempt to contact the class sensei will be deemed to have ceased training with Shorin Ryu Karate Do New Zealand.
- All care and due diligence are taken by Shorin Ryu Karate Do New Zealand and its instructors to provide safe training and training environment. We do not accept responsibility for any student that, through inattention or undesirable behaviour, causes any injury to them self or to another student.
- Prospective students will not be granted membership if they fall into one or all of the following categories; have a serious criminal conviction, have drug and/ or alcohol addiction or have any gang affiliation.
- Students who incur a serious criminal conviction while a member of Shorin Ryu Karate Do New Zealand will have their membership terminated.
